Leah’s Automotive – UPCOMING FEATURE

Leah at Leah’s Automotive

I have another exciting upcoming feature that will be written by my mechanic, Leah Gillanders, Owner & Operator of Leah’s Automotive in North Vancouver, BC. She is an anomaly being a female entrepreneur in a male dominated industry and she’s killing it! She opened a second business, Leah’s Nail Lounge right next door so that her customers can get their nails done while they wait for their car to be repaired in her shop. How cool is that?! I am fascinated by this incredible woman. And you will be too!

She has worked on my car and identified and repaired a problem that had the other shops stumped. There was an odour that initially was thought to be a coolant leak. It was a stressful time in my life personally when this happened last year, so when Leah was able to locate, identify the cause, and rid my car of this chemical scent that was like a vapour that was in my mouth every time I drove my car, she brought me peace of mind.

What’s also wonderful is Leah didn’t charge me an arm and a leg for it. She has reasonable rates AND the best part is that I trust her. She explains what was done, what parts were used and Leah will do a thorough breakdown of your bill line by line. She’s AMAZING! Go see her at Leah’s Automotive: 1107 West 14th, North Vancouver, BC off Marine Dr.

There are many reasons to become a member at Steve Nash Lonsdate but to keep this blog short and sweet like me I am going to share 10 reasons.

Capilano University is Coming to the Shipyards District!

Shipyards, North Vancouver, BC

It’s my first day of class at Capilano University in the School of Communication. I am excited for many reasons – not just because it’s the first day.

I have to commend the University for the warm welcome they gave us, first year students last week at our Student Orientations – the Welcome Ceremony (which I wrote about in a separate post) and our Faculty Orientation.

I decided to go back to school because of a colleague’s suggestion that I take some Social Media courses at Cap U after he saw how passionate I am about Instagram. I completed 4 out of 5 courses I need for the Award of Achievement in the Applied Digital Communications & Social Media program. I will be taking the final course in November at the Historic Shipyards in North Vancouver, BC.

Capliano University is opening a second campus at the Shipyards in early November and I will be taking Writing Effective Web Content. How appropriate! Haha …

The original name of the Shipyards was Wallace Shipyard and was opened in 1906. Alfred Wallace’s shipyard became “… the largest employer of shipyard labour in BC. During the war it produced 109 of the 312 ‘Victory Ships’ in Canada. Entire subdivisions were created in North Vancouver to house the workforce. The Shipyard’s contribution to the war effort was so significant that at the end of World War II, Clarence Wallace was decorated as “Commander of the British Empire”. – www.cnv.org

I feel fortunate and grateful to be able to attend a class at a location so rich in North Vancouver and Western Canadian History. As I get older, my pride in being Canadian has grown. This year when my Mom, Mako and I attended the Canada Day parade in North Vancouver my eyes welled up with tears.

Travel – 5 Reasons to Visit Tofino, BC

Tofino - Mako’s Bday 2016

One of my favourite places to travel to locally is Tofino, BC. I feel a connection to the land. It is a spiritual connection…

1) There is a tranquility there that is calming, restorative, and balancing.

Three years ago Tofino called my name to come back. And I did. I booked a reservation at my favourite resort, Tin Wis Best Western. Tin Wis means calm water. The name is so fitting because it was so relaxing and for me and probably for all their guests that stay there.

2) It’s a magical experience–you get to experience nature 360 degrees around you and see the BEST SUNSETS ever!

All 85 rooms of the resort face Mackenzie Beach. Every single room has a beach view! This is what the front desk told me the first time I made a reservation.

3) There is a lot of fresh seafood! OMG and it’s sooo good. My Mom and I went to the Schooner and not only had the yummiest nom-noms BUT ALSO received the best customer service! Their Island Mussels & Clam bowl (seafood chowder) stayed hot until the last spoonful! I was very impressed. If you visit Tofino you MUST GO to the Schooner Restaurant.

4) There a lot of art galleries to visit that demonstrate the rich Indigenous History. One of the artists that “spoke to me” is Jack Willoughby. I first saw his art at the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC (less than 5 hours south of Tofino). The first piece of his that resonated with me was a Tree of Life. I kicked myself for not buying it but years later I bought his “Hook Windswept” at the Spirit Gallery in Horseshoe Bay.

5) You can cross off learning how to surf off your bucket list! I did the first time I went to Tofino at Surf Sister.

Writing about it now, I know I have to go back SOON! I think she may be calling my name again BUT this time I think I’m calling Tofino.

Man Of My Dreams…

Beautiful sunset at PNE Night of Colin James Concert

I just woke up from a dream about a man I was in love with in 1999. It felt sooo REAL. I wish it was ,,,

In the dream I was somehow at his place and we were speaking with each other like 20 years hadn’t passed…

He asked me if I wanted to go play pool. He asked me if I remembered the night we made love. I answered too quickly in the dream and said yes, like it was yesterday and immediately regretted saying that and wished that I had played hard to get like he was doing.

I could tell he liked me but he was being coy. He enjoyed seeing how expressive I was in revealing my attraction to him even after so many years.

I wrote about Synchronicity yesterday and mentioned that I met my soulmate. It was him that I was referring to. Unfortunately, he did not feel the same way.

The last week or so I started thinking about him again. He was the ultimate unattainable love which is my MO – Modus Operandi which means the way one operates at work or in a criminal investigation. In my case, it is the way in which I chose men to fall in love with. I fall in love with men that initially are chasing me while I am cool as a cucumber but then after we are intimate, all of a sudden the tables turn. I start chasing him and he is only partly available to me. It drives me crazy and I become passionately challenged by the situation.

Fortunately, I am currently not in this unhealthy pattern of love. They say that male authors’ mistress is writing. It is mine also.

Fitness Contributors – UPCOMING FEATURE

Fawn Gill & I at Pilates SNFC

I have some exciting news to share with you all … Fawn Gill, Pilates Instructor & Group Fitness Manager and Isaiah Freidooni, the General Manager from Steve Nash Fitness Club Lonsdale location in North Vancouver, BC will both be Contributors to our Lifestyle Ezine.

For those of you who don’t know, Steve Nash, founder of the chain of fitness clubs “… is a Canadian former professional basketball player who played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association. He was an eight-time NBA All-Star and a seven-time All-NBA selection. Twice, Nash was named the NBA Most Valuable Player while playing for the Phoenix Suns. ” – Wikipedia

I am a member and Ambassador of Steve Nash and love my gym! I am a foodie and I quit smoking 2 1/2 years ago and as a result I have gained 15 lbs. Sticking to a fitness routine is sometimes challenging. But I have made a commitment to myself to make Fitness a part of my Lifestyle. It helps that I have made new friends in Fawn’s Pilates class who have become my gym buddies. They keep me accountable. On the days that we have class I bring my gym bag into my office with me in the morning so it is sitting on my extra chair that faces me. If sleepy Mayumi starts wanting to take a nap after work, I just think about Alison & Linda and I HAVE TO GO! Knowing that they will be there – helps keep me motivated.

I will keep you updated on my progress. So far I have lost 2 lbs and about an inch off my waist. This is about health, overall well-being, and not a numbers game for me. I do not wish to be a size 4, 2, or 0! I am currently a size 12 to 14 and I used to be an 8 to 10. I am sharing my sizes so that you get an idea of how much weight I gained.

I am only 5’4″ so a 5 lb weight gain shows as well as a 5 lb weight loss. I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and I am grateful. But I am thinking about my poor knees that hurt sometimes when I am going up or down stairs and I know that I am carrying too much weight for my small frame. I am a small boned person so I have small wrists, narrow ankles, and slim legs (thanks Mom & Dad … lol).

The area I need to work on is my belly. My upper abs have gotten flatter since joining Steve Nash and Fawn’s Pilates class but my lower abs have always been an issue – even when I was only 115 lbs and slim.

Sooo … as it says on our green wall in our Pilates & Yoga studio, “Together We are Stronger”! – WE GOT THIS! Let’s get our fitness ON! If you would like a FREE 7-DAY Day Pass to Steve Nash send me a message right on our site at: https://mayumiizumi.com/contact-us/ OR shoot me an email: admin@mayumiizumi.com AND when you go MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM MAYUMI SENT YOU. Isaiah will be sooo happy!

Synchronicity – 5 Positive Signs That You’re On The Right Path

Sunflower Fest

What is Synchronicity? I could Google it and provide you what other sources say what it is BUT I want to tell you in my words, from my experience what Synchronicity is .

1)Synchronicity is a “knowing”, an unshakable feeling that EVERYTHING IS GOING YOUR WAY & YOU’RE ON THE RIGHT PATH. It runs in waves. I first noticed synchronicity in my life in 1999, the summer before I moved to Toronto, ON to study Fashion Design at the International Academy of Design & Technology.

I was on a flight from Vancouver to Toronto and moving there without knowing a single soul OR where I was going to live BUT YET KNOWING I was and everything was going to be okay. I trusted this feeling and it came TRUE.

2)Synchronicity is running in my life again now. I am about to embark on a wonderful adventure & journey at Capilano University. My passions for writing, editing & photography were first explored and fulfilled on my Instagram profile, Medium.com, and HERE now on my very own website! It’s a feeling of contentment.

3)Synchronicity is trust in Universe/God that a Higher Power is guiding you on a path, the right path. Where is this path leading you to? Only you can answer this. Where is it you want “to go”? What is your purpose in life? I found mine. You will too.

4) Along your path you will meet/have reunions with your soulmates & twin souls. I met 3 people that I “knew already”. My soul recognized them. As did theirs mine. If you suspect you have met your soulmate, you probably have. I will expand on a future blog my experience with meeting my soul family/pod.

5)Some of you may struggle when you are at one of the “peaks” of Synchronicity. In the past I did because I felt like I didn’t deserve to have/be given ALL the wonderful things that were happening to me. But you DO! You deserve it ALL. You deserve to be HAPPY so EMBRACE ALL THE POSITIVITY WITH OPEN ARMS & AN OPEN HEART!

Mako’s Advice: 4 Beauty Tips

Beauty Tips

If you missed my last blog, Mako is my Mom. She’s Japanese and has beautiful skin. I cannot share with you how old she is … It’s an ancient Japanese secret… Hahahaha…

But what I can share with you is the Beauty advice she gave me over the years: 1) Moisturize – I like Nivea’s Essentials 24 H Moisture Boost with SPF 15, 2) Take your make-up off as soon as you get home – I use Life Brand’s 3 in 1 Cleansing Cloths, 3) Use a mask – I found a great detoxifying one by Biore – Blue Agave & Baking Soda (shown in the photo, 4) Use a toner – I like Nivea’s Gentle Toner for Dry & Sensitive Skin.

If you are not blessed with youthful Japanese genes like me & Mako, then make more of an effort with your skincare routine by applying the advice she gave me … I too would like to keep my age under wraps BUT I will share that I’m over 35.

And my Male subscribers, who are reading this -Mako’s advice applies to you too – besides the tip about taking your make-up off. There are now a lot of products available for Men. Nivea has a whole skincare line especially for you. If you don’t want to fuss and think it’s too girly for you then at the very least PLEASE MOISTURIZE EVERYDAY! Moisturizing is so important because it keeps the wrinkles away. And it’s never too early or TOO LATE to start.

Diet, what you put into your body is just as important as what you apply on your face if not more so! The Japanese diet includes a lot of fish, seafood, seaweed, vegetables, fruit, and healthy snacks like rice crackers. I will be posting more about healthy eating and also fitness. But if you would like to have a glimpse of my fitness routine at Steve Nash Lonsdale have a look at my Instagram profile @mayumiizumi OR click on the icon in Contact us: https://mayumiizumi.com/contact-us/ .
