Fitness Contributors – UPCOMING FEATURE

Fawn Gill & I at Pilates SNFC

I have some exciting news to share with you all … Fawn Gill, Pilates Instructor & Group Fitness Manager and Isaiah Freidooni, the General Manager from Steve Nash Fitness Club Lonsdale location in North Vancouver, BC will both be Contributors to our Lifestyle Ezine.

For those of you who don’t know, Steve Nash, founder of the chain of fitness clubs “… is a Canadian former professional basketball player who played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association. He was an eight-time NBA All-Star and a seven-time All-NBA selection. Twice, Nash was named the NBA Most Valuable Player while playing for the Phoenix Suns. ” – Wikipedia

I am a member and Ambassador of Steve Nash and love my gym! I am a foodie and I quit smoking 2 1/2 years ago and as a result I have gained 15 lbs. Sticking to a fitness routine is sometimes challenging. But I have made a commitment to myself to make Fitness a part of my Lifestyle. It helps that I have made new friends in Fawn’s Pilates class who have become my gym buddies. They keep me accountable. On the days that we have class I bring my gym bag into my office with me in the morning so it is sitting on my extra chair that faces me. If sleepy Mayumi starts wanting to take a nap after work, I just think about Alison & Linda and I HAVE TO GO! Knowing that they will be there – helps keep me motivated.

I will keep you updated on my progress. So far I have lost 2 lbs and about an inch off my waist. This is about health, overall well-being, and not a numbers game for me. I do not wish to be a size 4, 2, or 0! I am currently a size 12 to 14 and I used to be an 8 to 10. I am sharing my sizes so that you get an idea of how much weight I gained.

I am only 5’4″ so a 5 lb weight gain shows as well as a 5 lb weight loss. I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and I am grateful. But I am thinking about my poor knees that hurt sometimes when I am going up or down stairs and I know that I am carrying too much weight for my small frame. I am a small boned person so I have small wrists, narrow ankles, and slim legs (thanks Mom & Dad … lol).

The area I need to work on is my belly. My upper abs have gotten flatter since joining Steve Nash and Fawn’s Pilates class but my lower abs have always been an issue – even when I was only 115 lbs and slim.

Sooo … as it says on our green wall in our Pilates & Yoga studio, “Together We are Stronger”! – WE GOT THIS! Let’s get our fitness ON! If you would like a FREE 7-DAY Day Pass to Steve Nash send me a message right on our site at: https://mayumiizumi.com/contact-us/ OR shoot me an email: admin@mayumiizumi.com AND when you go MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM MAYUMI SENT YOU. Isaiah will be sooo happy!

Synchronicity – 5 Positive Signs That You’re On The Right Path

Sunflower Fest

What is Synchronicity? I could Google it and provide you what other sources say what it is BUT I want to tell you in my words, from my experience what Synchronicity is .

1)Synchronicity is a “knowing”, an unshakable feeling that EVERYTHING IS GOING YOUR WAY & YOU’RE ON THE RIGHT PATH. It runs in waves. I first noticed synchronicity in my life in 1999, the summer before I moved to Toronto, ON to study Fashion Design at the International Academy of Design & Technology.

I was on a flight from Vancouver to Toronto and moving there without knowing a single soul OR where I was going to live BUT YET KNOWING I was and everything was going to be okay. I trusted this feeling and it came TRUE.

2)Synchronicity is running in my life again now. I am about to embark on a wonderful adventure & journey at Capilano University. My passions for writing, editing & photography were first explored and fulfilled on my Instagram profile, Medium.com, and HERE now on my very own website! It’s a feeling of contentment.

3)Synchronicity is trust in Universe/God that a Higher Power is guiding you on a path, the right path. Where is this path leading you to? Only you can answer this. Where is it you want “to go”? What is your purpose in life? I found mine. You will too.

4) Along your path you will meet/have reunions with your soulmates & twin souls. I met 3 people that I “knew already”. My soul recognized them. As did theirs mine. If you suspect you have met your soulmate, you probably have. I will expand on a future blog my experience with meeting my soul family/pod.

5)Some of you may struggle when you are at one of the “peaks” of Synchronicity. In the past I did because I felt like I didn’t deserve to have/be given ALL the wonderful things that were happening to me. But you DO! You deserve it ALL. You deserve to be HAPPY so EMBRACE ALL THE POSITIVITY WITH OPEN ARMS & AN OPEN HEART!

Mako’s Advice: 4 Beauty Tips

Beauty Tips

If you missed my last blog, Mako is my Mom. She’s Japanese and has beautiful skin. I cannot share with you how old she is … It’s an ancient Japanese secret… Hahahaha…

But what I can share with you is the Beauty advice she gave me over the years: 1) Moisturize – I like Nivea’s Essentials 24 H Moisture Boost with SPF 15, 2) Take your make-up off as soon as you get home – I use Life Brand’s 3 in 1 Cleansing Cloths, 3) Use a mask – I found a great detoxifying one by Biore – Blue Agave & Baking Soda (shown in the photo, 4) Use a toner – I like Nivea’s Gentle Toner for Dry & Sensitive Skin.

If you are not blessed with youthful Japanese genes like me & Mako, then make more of an effort with your skincare routine by applying the advice she gave me … I too would like to keep my age under wraps BUT I will share that I’m over 35.

And my Male subscribers, who are reading this -Mako’s advice applies to you too – besides the tip about taking your make-up off. There are now a lot of products available for Men. Nivea has a whole skincare line especially for you. If you don’t want to fuss and think it’s too girly for you then at the very least PLEASE MOISTURIZE EVERYDAY! Moisturizing is so important because it keeps the wrinkles away. And it’s never too early or TOO LATE to start.

Diet, what you put into your body is just as important as what you apply on your face if not more so! The Japanese diet includes a lot of fish, seafood, seaweed, vegetables, fruit, and healthy snacks like rice crackers. I will be posting more about healthy eating and also fitness. Labour Day Long Weekend

It’s Sunday, September 1st on Labour Day Long weekend -the weekend before I and all the kids go back to school…

Although I am excited, I have mixed feelings about Summer ending. On the one hand I am excited about Fall starting and the great garments in my closet that I will be able to wear again like my Belle Dame poncho from Branches & knots (shown in the photo – with eternity scarf from Buchart Gardens in Victoria, BC), what I call my Sherlock Holmes cape from Denise Da Rosa, The Modern Girl’s yard sale, and my tall black leather The North Face boots (photos of my boots & cape are featured in my E-Newsletter – register for my website OR enter your email in Contact us.

On the other hand, I am sad Summer is about to end … Long days & nights, the beach, radler beers, and seeing the hot muscle cars that are taken out of storage and on the road …

But a new journey is about to begin. My academic career in Communications, PR, and Journalism. All excite me because I can see my future and I will be even more fulfilled than I am now!

“What is Love?!” – 1990’s Fashion Retrospective

Deelite had a song by the same name in the early 90’s, back when I was in the shoe biz. I was Assistant Manager of a shoes store right in the heart of downtown Vancouver on Robson Street. Needless to say, I had LOTS OF SHOES!

Every week we had a shipment of new ones coming in. Most of our shoes were Cougar, a Canadian brand that was founded in 1948 in Burlington, Ontario by Walter Sedlbauer. What started out as a Canadian shoe company has become distributed all over the world.

The store was called City Shoes, our neighbours were Benny’s Bagels, the two Starbucks kitty corner from each other. And they were both busy … But I didn’t like Starbucks coffee back then. It was too bitter… There was also a great fish & chips joint just around the corner from us on Thurlow but I can’t remember what it was called. Do any of you remember?!

The fashion in 1990, 1991 was all about platform sandals, wide legged pants that somewhat resembled bell bottoms BUT more stylish. They were using stretchy fabrics so the pants were snug fitting until below the knee. Girls were pushing their hair back with headbands and tying it up with scrunchies. Tall thigh high boots were hot. I had a pair of black suede Cougars that went up past my knees and tied in the back with ribbons. I wore those with my Bebe Mickey Mouse jeans (I still have them), black cropped crochet top & black bustier that I got from Contempo in Honolulu, Hawaii. My Dad used to live there and I would visit him during my summer breaks from school. I weighed a mere 115 – 120 lbs with long hair down to my waist. I was a hot little thing but didn’t know it! Hahahaha… I wish I had a photo of my ensemble to post.

My girlfriends and I would go to Reggae Wednesdays at Graceland, a club that was across the street from Luv Affair and another one on Beatty called Warehouse where they had metal detectors at the doorway! Those were the days of my … dare I say my age?! Nahhhh…. let’s keep you guessing.
